Ethan's Cake.

Today we baked a cake.

Because it was raining and because Ethan had been asking me to for the last two days.

He got to pick the flavor, frosting color and sprinkles.

He was so proud.

And then he devoured it.

Not a bad way to start out the week.

Sweetness {Sugar Jumbles}.

It's no secret that I love dessert.
I love anything that's chocolaty, gooey, sugary, and sweet.
I just don't need to be eating it all as often as I do.
So once I week I'm going to indulge in my love for sugar and I will bake.
I love baking almost as much as I love dessert, so this is a win win for me.
I plan on baking some of my favorites as well as things I've never tried before, like a pie.
Pies scare me.
I don't know why but they do.

So this week I made an old favorite of mine, Sugar Jumbles.
I'm sure many of you have made these several times too.
I love that they are simple, good, and I always have the ingredients in my cupboard.

First thing you'll need is a helper. Mine's always at the ready.
Then cream together:
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup shortening
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
In a separate bowl combine:
2 1/4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon salt
Add the flour mixture to the cream mixture.
Drop by the teaspoonfuls onto an ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 375 for 8-10 minutes.
The end result...
Add sprinkles if you wish, or don't, they're just as good plain.
And Enjoy!

Rainy Days.

So lets catch up.
Last week was pretty darn rainy around here and I was not too happy about it.
Rainy days are hard on a Mama with a rambunctious toddler and a newborn.
I was more than happy when the sun finally decided to shine again and we were able to play outside and walk around the neighborhood.
But while it was raining we tried to make the most out of being inside.
We made cookies.

I attempted to take a decent photo of the boys together.

We made a fort.
We did lots of arts and crafts, movie watching and lounging around.
And during all of this Jacob was getting happier by the day.
But I have no proof because all the photos of took of his happy little face won't upload to this post. Oh well!
I'm sure I'll be taking a zillion more of him this week and hopefully it won't be raining.

It's been a long day.

It's been one of those days. I'm exhausted and sore. Ethan only took an hour and a half nap and I didn't have time to relax. He has wanted me to do everything with him today, which is unusual for him. He plays well alone and keeps himself pretty well occupied when I need to get things done around the house. Not today, I had to color with him, play with play dough, splash in the water, throw the ball around. I know I need to savor these moments because one day he won't want me around, but sometimes it's just hard. And now Brett thinks he might have broken his big toe and is limping around, moving at too slow of a pace for me. And I'm not doing a good job at having sympathy.
So I'm tired.
But one thing has brightened my day.
I was trying to find something for us to do and naturally I thought we should bake.
So I made a batch of these.
They are my Grandmi's Sugar Jumbles recipe and I haven't made them in so long. They are delicious!
Oh and these are sitting on my counter in the kitchen and it is taking everything out of me not devour all the contents in one sitting.
